This article delves into the significant role of the lotus in Ayurveda, explores ways to harness its power, and shares some DIY recipes that incorporate the healing essence of the lotus.
The Sacred Role of Lotus in Ayurveda
The lotus flower, with its roots in muddy water yet blossoms turning elegantly towards the sun, offers a profound metaphor for human growth—rising from the mud of physical and spiritual hardship to bloom beautifully untouched by the filth. In Ayurveda, every part of the lotus—from the seeds to the leaves—holds medicinal value, catering to a myriad of ailments and promoting overall health.
In ancient India, the lotus represents spiritual enlightenment, beauty, fertility, purity, prosperity and eternity.
Ayurveda has the lotus present in certain herbal formulas and is used to calm the mind, strengthen concentration, soothe restless thoughts and encourage heart activity.

It’s also delicious and nutritious to use lotus root in soups. A wonderful and easy gluten free and vegan recipe is air fried lotus chips. They have a ton more fiber than potatoes and once you start eating these, they are hard to stop!
